Why Otto Gelato
Every batch that lands in our case is made locally using thoughtfully sourced ingredients, real mint, real fruit, real espresso, real hazelnuts — the good stuff, no shortcuts. No shipping it in from three states away. No mystery ingredients. Just gelato made close to home, by people who genuinely love making it, and scooped a few miles from where it was churned.

Pistachio
Fresh pistachios, never food coloring, never almond flavoring.
Stracciatella
An italian classic. Fine strands of drizzled chocolate meets it’s match.
Espresso
Our Spella espresso beans are the star of the show in this espresso gelato with chocolate flakes.

The Gelato
Slow. Small-Batch. Seriously Italian.
Here’s the thing about real gelato: it’s not just ice cream with a fancy accent. It’s churned slower, with less air and lower fat, so every scoop is dense, creamy, and packed with flavor from the very first bite. It’s an old-world craft, and it’s not one you can rush.
It’s the same philosophy that’s always driven Pizzeria Otto’s kitchen: local ingredients, honest technique, good prices, and zero interest in cutting corners. Turns out that philosophy tastes just as good in a cup as it does on a pizza. You can taste it in the scoop.
The Espresso
Because gelato and espresso were meant to be together.
No Italian dessert counter is complete without a proper espresso bar, and Otto Gelato & Espresso brings both under one roof. Order a scoop, order a shot, or do what any self-respecting nonna would tell you to do: order an affogato and let the gelato melt right into the espresso. It’s simple. It’s perfect. It’s the whole point.

Why Spella?
When looking for a partner to bring a truly authentic Italian espresso experience to the scoop shop, there was really only one choice — Spella Caffè. Known for its hand-pulled, Italian-style espresso, shakeratos, and their signature “medium sweet” roast, Spella Caffè has been a fixture of Portland’s coffee scene for nearly two decades. Otto Gelato & Espresso is getting the full Spella Caffè experience — classic Italian espresso drinks, shakeratos, and more — right alongside the gelato.

Our Story
Every great Italian meal ends with something sweet. So when a small and super cute spot became available in the pavilion next door to the Lake Oswego location, it inspired us to finally move forward on a dream we had been thinking about for years — Otto Gelato!
Not just any gelato. Real gelato, made the old way: slowly, in small batches, with a whole lot of heart. That’s where our partnership with Pronto Gelato comes in. Founded by Andrea Spella and George Kaden right here in Portland, Pronto has spent years perfecting the art of gelato-making the way it’s done in Italy: dense, silky, and deeply flavorful, never over-whipped, never rushed.
At Otto we had already been researching the craft of gelato-making when we discovered that Andrea and George were already doing it exactly the way we would have — and we quickly decided a partnership was the obvious move.
Andrea and George tested products from dairies all over the region to find the one whose milk quality was best for gelato, and ended up working with a small, family-owned dairy in Corvallis. That kind of careful sourcing is exactly what makes both Italian and Northwest cuisine so uniquely high quality, and we couldn’t have done it better ourselves.

Together, Otto and Pronto teamed up to bring Lake Oswego something the neighborhood didn’t know it was missing: a proper gelateria, right next to the pizza joint everyone already loves. Otto Gelato & Espresso is the result: small-batch gelato, and classic Italian espresso drinks, served up in a cozy little shop built for lingering, laughing, and going back for seconds.
Pair your pizza with your gelato
Here’s a little neighborhood secret: the best night out in Lake Oswego starts with a wood-fired pie and ends with a scoop. Swing by Pizzeria Otto for a Margherita fresh out of the oven, then walk it off (or straight into) Otto Gelato & Espresso just next door. Same family, same standards, same “why would you go anywhere else” kind of night.
Pizza first, gelato second — or gelato first, we won’t tell. Either way, it’s one trip, two Otto favorites, and zero reasons to choose. Dinner and dessert, solved.
The Grand Opening
Otto Gelato & Espresso officially welcomed its first guests with a grand opening celebration next door to Pizzeria Otto in Lake Oswego’s Mercato Grove. The doors are open and the gelato case is full.
If you missed the ribbon-cutting, don’t sweat it, every day is a good day for gelato. Stop in, grab a cone, and see what all the fuss is about.

The Otto Promise
Family recipes. Neighborhood roots. No shortcuts.
Whether it’s a wood-fired pizza or a scoop of hazelnut gelato, the Otto name has always meant one thing: made with care, made with real ingredients, made by people who actually give a damn.
Otto Gelato & Espresso is a love letter to Italian tradition and Pacific Northwest craft, two things that, it turns out, go together beautifully.
So come on in. Pull up a chair, order a scoop (or three), and let us prove that dessert deserves just as much love as dinner.
